Other festival links
The criteria used for the NMHS SHORTCUTS Film Festival has been specifically developed to allow students to enter their works in other state, national and international film competitions. There are far more possibilities for students, but listed below is some information and links to key film festivals that our students can enter:
ATOM Film FestivalSince 1982, the ATOM Awards have been celebrating the best of Australian and New Zealand screen content from the education sector and screen industry professionals.
They are the second-longest-running film and media awards in Australia, behind the AFI/AACTA Awards. The 2015 ATOM Awards promise to be especially rewarding, with entries in nearly thirty categories covering everything from feature-length documentaries and factual television programs to animation, educational resources, games and new media. |

Adelaide Kids Film FestivalThe Adelaide Kids Film Festival is an annual film festival ‘for kids by kids’. A pilot event was successfully held in December 2011, and immediately it became clear that there was demand for an annual film festival which would harness, encourage and showcase the creativity of young filmmakers.
The event is primarily aimed at filmmakers 18 years and under, with submissions of films under 10 minutes accepted in three main categories: Live-Action, Animation and Documentary. It is the organisers aim to ensure that the festival is as accessible to as many entrants as possible. As a result, submissions are free. |
Heart of Gold International Film FestivalHeld in richly historic Gympie, Australia from 6-9 October 2016, Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival (HOGIFF) is one of the gems in the crown of Australian short film festivals but we like to think it has extra sparkle thanks to its unique mission: To showcase well-crafted, nourishing and uplifting short films from around the world.
The festival has become renowned for its high quality programme which is largely thanks to a very unique, methodical two-part screening system. All films are filtered through the festival’s artistic directors, and small groups of screeners that gather in lounge-rooms in Gympie, to review and score the countless submissions. |
